Please Sign the Petition.  We are very close to meeting our goal of 5000 signatures.  Wouldn't it be great to deliver twice that many?

Congress is a reactive body so let's come together to tell our representatives in Washington that violence reduction and prevention must be a top priority.  Sign the petition and let Congress know that you stand for peace.

Ask other peace and nonviolence organizations in your community if they will share the petition with their memberships.  Ask your friends and family to sign and share it with your social networking sites.

We will deliver the petition to Congress on
September 11, 2008.

September is International Culture of Peace Month, with literally thousands of pro-peace activities happening all around the world. That means it's time for one of the favorite activites of grassroots Peace Alliance activists around the country - "Walk for Peace" walkathons! Districts across the nation are already busy organizing their walks. It’s a fun, creative, dynamic way to raise money and awareness about the campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence.

  1. Read the Overview page and then check out these Organizing Tips.
  2. Search by Zip Code to see when a Walk near you is organized. You can also check for events from your Profile Pages.
  3. If you are organizing a Walk for Peace, be sure you list it here so others can join you!. You can fill out a form for your Walk for Peace now and update it as details are filnalized.  The sooner you list it, the sooner you may get some help!

Participate in an historic citizen lobbying effort to create a U.S. Department of Peace. There is currently a bill before the U.S. House of Representatives (HR 808). This landmark measure will augment our current problem-solving options, providing practical, nonviolent solutions to the problems of domestic and international conflict.

Domestically, the Department of Peace will develop policies and allocate resources to effectively reduce the levels of domestic and gang violence, child abuse, and various other forms of societal discord. Internationally, the Department will advise the President and Congress on the most sophisticated ideas and techniques regarding peace-creation among nations. Learn more...
